Welcome to World Studies! This course is the first of many adventures you will experience here at Salem High School and within the Social Studies Department. A brief description of the course is listed below:

“This freshman course is designed to survey the learning standards set forth in the Massachusetts History and Social Science Frameworks for both World Studies I and II. This course will examine key themes in world history from 9th to the 21st century. The first half of the course includes a review of the Fall of the Western Roman Empire and its effect on the Western World leading to a review of the re-emergence of civilization in Western Europe from the Renaissance through the Age of Enlightenment, and its interaction with the eastern and western worlds. Asian, African and Pre-Columbian American civilizations during the same period are examined. The second half of the course examines major themes in world history from the Age of Enlightenment and Revolution to the contemporary world.”
