Welcome to World Studies!

Here is the course description according to the Salem High School Program of Studies Book (2009-2010):

“This freshman course is designed to survey key themes in World History from the 9th to 21st centuries.  The first half of the course includes a review of the fall of the Western Roman Empire and its affect on the Western World, leading to a review of the re-emergence of civilization in Western Europe from the Renaissance through the Age of Enlightenment and its interaction with the eastern and western worlds.  Asian, African, and Pre-Columbian American civilizations during the same period are examined.  The second half of the course examines major themes in World History from the Age of Enlightenment and Revolution to the contemporary world including industrialization, the World Wars, and rise of Communism.  Students also examine the important political, social, economic and religious developments during this time period, including the development of democratic, scientific, and secular thought in Europe.”

I will be using this blog to post homework assignments.  If you have any questions or concerns, please post in the comment section.  Your comment goes through my school email account. lorimarenda@salemk12.org
